Meet Sugar & Fluff, a team of three (Aasim, Tarek and Andrea) with a "heartfelt respect for the beauty of the arts and crafts." Together, they work closely with design vendors and focus on the details of your dream events. We had the pleasure of working with them for To Have & To Hold, our first wedding collection, and we are so thankful! See below for a little insight into their office and how they helped us make our wedding vision come true. ♥
Tell us a little about the team. How did you three meet?
We all went to the same school studying graphic design together at Cal Poly Pomona and ended up working at the same design firm on campus. From there all three of us realized our love for creating art and designing beautiful things and created Sugar & Fluff.
What's the story behind the name, Sugar and Fluff?
Everyone asks us that same question and we really don't have a straight answer to it. It just popped out of Tarek's mouth one day as a joke. He kept bringing it up as a joke to start a design house called Sugar & Fluff. One day we all got serious and met up for Thai food and made it something real.
What is a typical day like in the office?
It's usually us spray painting something random, crafting 300 wheat wreaths or just watching TLC. Our new favorite show right is My Crazy Obsession.
What is the most stressful aspect of planning a wedding? Best part?
Ahh this is a good one. The most stressful part of planning is probably the things you have no control over such as the weather. You never know if its going to rain three months in advance so you have to prepare as much you can for it and make sure your designs can work around it. I think the best part of planning is the end result. When you are finally done with the planning and its the big day. It is such a beautiful feeling to see all your sketches and hard work come to life. Every event or photo shoot at the end makes us feel so good and accomplished.
Describe the process behind your contribution to our bridal lookbook.
When we first got the email from Mai to contribute to this shoot, we were really stoked. After all the inspiration Mai told us about the dresses and the time period, all three of us brainstormed for ideas. We went to our favorite local bookstores and libraries to get ideas and inspiration for the shoot. We then took many trips to flea markets and watched a lot of 1920s inspired movies to make sure our vision for the shoot was on point. We wanted everything we used and designed for the shoot to have a meaning behind it.
Do you have any behind-the-scenes moments you'd like to share?
One memorable moment from the shoot was when our furry friend Delilah arrived for the shoot. It was really cold and rainy that day but when she arrived Delilah brought warmth back to the shoot. Everyone was swooning over her and at that moment I realized how much fun and exciting doing shoots were. It was so awesome to see all our hard work and planning come to life for the Ruche Bridal Line. We were so happy to be a part of it and hope all of you guys loved it as much as we did.
Thank you, Aasim, Tarek and Andrea!
