  • Project DIY: A Beautiful Mess Photo Collage

    Saturday, September 29, 2012

Elsie and Emma, the talented sisters behind A Beautiful Mess, visited our headquarters a while ago for a fun Sister Style collaboration shoot!  While they were here, we got to have some fun in the studio, go out for a fancy dinner in downtown, and create a DIY photo collage project. In 5 easy steps, you too can make your own photo collage project.

Fun Fact: The music in this video is actually Elsie's husband's band, Sucré.

  • Style File: Casually Fashionable

    Thursday, September 27, 2012

With the first chill of Fall in the air, it's time we began riffling into the depths of our closets, pulling out the boots we've missed strutting down the street in, the thick sweaters we can't wait to cuddle with and the scarves that dress up any outfit. While excited for the Fall season, with its changing colors, pumpkin patches and holidays, it takes some work transitioning our wardrobe from one season to the next. Taking cues from some of our favorite bloggers, the fashionistas featured below give us a peek into their casual fall styles.

Cassidy, from Things Like Skeleton Keys, always looks effortlessly fashionable!  In her first look, she paired our lace and tulle dress with merlot colored heels that would be perfect for a date night.  In her more casual looks, she wore our striped pencil skirt, and multi colored chiffon skirt with her best accessory being her adorable son Cohen.

Melina, from the Caffeinated Closet, pulls off a consistent green and black combination, wearing our striped mint top and button up blouse in her first look. To transition this outfit to cooler weather, she adds black knitted tights and brown boots making this outfit  perfect for running errands or meeting up with friends.

Tieka, from Selective Potential, paired our brown wedges perfectly with a fall printed dress and simple belt.  Not only is her outfit beautiful, but so is the natural backdrop she is posing in front of.

Our buyer and stylist, Mara, looks ready for a fun trip in our emerald top and frilly polka dot skirt. With a statement necklace, peep toe heels and vintage-inspired sun glasses, this outfits is a perfect blend of vintage shapes made modern with unique prints.

Rebekah, from Verdant Bents, added a lacy skirt under our blue and yellow dress to add some length and volume! Love this look? You can create the same look with our slipdress! We also love how she belted the dress and added a cardigan to her outfit.

  • Thoughts on a Wedding Planner

    Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Inspired by fall color palettes, we couldn't help but swoon over the vibrant colors in this fall wedding. See below for stunning photographs and this lovely bride's thoughts on wedding planners. ♥

When my husband Andy and I started planning for our fall wedding last year, I had every intention of single-handedly planning the perfect wedding. Something fun and memorable that would not only be beautiful but unique. Long story short, I quickly realized that juggling a full time job, a brand new blog and a mountain of wedding details just wasn't in the cards for me.

Fortunately, my amazing fiance came to the rescue and hired a planner to help pick up where I left off. I still got a ceremony and reception chalk full of personal touches, like the brunch themed menu with muffin baskets for our centerpieces and the mason jars overflowing with vibrant seasonal flowers to line the cobblestone aisle, but on my wedding day someone else took care of coordinating delivery and set up for the florist, caterers and photographer.

Every girl deserves her dream wedding, but it's easy to get bogged down with the details. Even if you can't afford to hire someone, don't be afraid to ask friends and family for help. Chances are once you let go of the reins a little you'll end up with something the surpasses all you expectations, I certainly did.

  • Easy Lemon Dessert Recipe

    Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Submitted by Chelsea, of Roots Transplanted

This recipe is one of my own creations. I was trying to get crafty with some leftover ingredients from previous baking endeavors, and I came up with this super quick and easy recipe for little mini pies. Need a fast little dessert to take to a bake sale, party or gathering? This is your go-to recipe! Seriously simple.

Original Recipe yields 4 mini pies

    Ingredients:
1/2 of a 8.2oz jar of Lemon Curd
    1 thawed ready-made pie crust
    Vanilla sugar for dusting

    What to do:

    1. Preheat your oven to ~300 F (I use a gas oven, so your temperature may need to be a little higher).

    2. Roll out your ready made pie crust and slice into 4 equal pieces.
    3. Mold the center of each piece into greased individual cupcake placements in a cupcake pan. Leave the edges hanging.

    4. Spoon about 1/2 inch of lemon curd into each pie crust. Use the whole 1/2 of the jar, so keep adding curd wherever its needed.
    5. Fold the edges of the crust into the middle so that it creates a little gathered middle.

    6. Sprinkle some vanilla sugar on top. Then bake in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until you notice the tops of the bites browning and the curd bubbling from the folds.

    7. Once baked, remove from oven and let them cool. Sprinkle them again with more vanilla sugar and let it dissolve into the curd that has bubbled out from the folds. Gotta add some more sweet, of course!

Enjoy these warm with vanilla ice cream or cooled on their own!

  • Mai's Maternity Style: 27 Weeks

    Monday, September 24, 2012

view the maternity-friendly outfit: garden necklace, printed dress, berry maxi skirt, navy bracelet, tan booties

One more week and I'll be going into my third trimester!  I feel like I've grown so much but I've heard that over the next few months, the baby will triple her size.  I can't even imagine how much bigger I will get.  I wonder how difficult it would be to still wear non-maternity clothing, but I'm up for the challenge!  I found myself living in these long jersey maxi skirts and I think they actually stretch out enough to last through my entire pregnancy.

The baby room is coming together... and I'll have more updates in the next few weeks!

    xo,
    Mai
