Sure, we watch awards shows because it’s fun to see whose hosting and we like to guess who is going to win Best Supporting Actress, but what really had us tuning in last week for the Emmys was a chance to glimpse all the gorgeous red carpet looks. We tend to ooh and ahh most over the looks that are sleek and modern or vintage-inspired (we can’t get enough of old Hollywood glamour!) So many of our favorite stars wore absolutely beautiful gowns, but here are the Emmy dresses that were true style moments in our book:
Allison Williams Emmy dress wasn’t trying to push the fashion envelope, but we were definitely fans. She looked lovely in a simple, sophisticated blue Ralph Lauren dress, proving that simple and sleek will always be the definition of classic. Blue was a big color on the red carpet this year, and she led the pack.
Oh Christina Hendricks, how can we ever thank you enough for celebrating your curves and inspiring other women to embrace the feminine beauty of their hourglass shape?! Christina Hendricks Emmy dress was a structured black number by Christian Siriano, complete with vintage-y delicate sleeves and a nipped in waist. Her red carpet look is beautifully finished with 1930’s inspired waves and a retro red lip.Kerry Washington stepped out in a romantic blush dress from Marchesa and won our hearts once again. Then again, the star of Scandal never disappoints. While Kerry Washington’s Emmy dress is sweet with its empire waist and tulle skirt, floral appliques and hints of gold lace in the bodice, it has a sophisticated edge and modern flair.
Kiernan Shipka’s Emmy Dress embraced the flower power circa 1960’s. She looked sweet and charming in a floral tea length Delpozo gown, with a dash of modern quirkiness that completely suited her. At 13, she has certainly mastered the art of age-appropriate and stylish dressing for the red carpet! Our favorite nerd on The Big Bang Theory certainly surprised us with her glamorous red carpet look! Mayim Bialik’s Emmy dress was a rich emerald green gown by Oliver Tolentino. With a sweetheart neckline, sheer sleeves, and an embellished waistline, this dress was just the right mix of modern sophistication and vintage-inspired elegance.
Smitten as we are with Lady Mary of Downton Abbey, we’re almost bound to love any style choice she makes for the red carpet! Michelle Dockery’s Emmy dress was a two-toned burgundy and red Prada gown that took colorblocking to new heights. Let’s just say, she had us at the bow.
