Rain or shine we love a good wedding story here at Ruche. We couldn't help ourselves from falling in love with this story of a bride and groom who looked seamlessly happy even underneath torrential downpour! This beautiful bride wore our Gwen In Ivory, and even after withstanding hours of rain, she couldn't have looked more beautiful. Hear the story from the bride herself!

March 2nd 2013 was a roller coaster for me. A tropical storm rolled in for the 3 hours I was getting prepped, married, and photographed. Still it was a beautiful day. Now that I look back, the dress I almost settled on can't compare to the dress I ultimately chose. It was fate that I stumbled across it a month before I was getting married and it fit like a glove. My mother in law gave me a little bit of Edwardian lace featuring a rose to symbolize the white rose of York, as I was about to become one. It matched the fabric perfectly and was a delicate addition to an already amazing dress. I had to wear a little shawl as a last minute cover up against the torrential rain, which of course ruined my hair, but it managed to work well in the overall look anyway.

It's such a gorgeous, comfortable dress that I can't believe I only wore it once. My husband keeps telling me we're going out to take proper photos someday when the sun comes out! Truly this dress deserves a few more photos to show case it. Until then, thank you so much for this gorgeous dress for my beautiful day.

“The adventure starts here” declares the inside jacket of 10: What’s On Your Top Ten List? by Dan Zadra, a beautiful book with a lovely graphic layout that definitely belongs on your reading list! “10” suggests something seemingly simple: what if bridging the gap between your dreams and reality started with writing those dreams down? Through a series of fun and engaging list-making activities and questions, this book will help you identify your values, turn your dreams into actionable goals and create a plan to see them through.

We all make to-do lists and grocery lists, but this book will inspire you to make the kinds of lists we often put off writing down, the ones that express our spirits, and call us to living meaningfully, with purpose and a sense of adventure and joy! Any of the lovely Life by Number series (we also have 5: Where Will You Be Five Years From Today? in our books section) make for fantastic gifts for birthdays, graduations, a housewarming, or just as a way to share inspiration with a friend. This book is not just for uncertain college grads and lost 20-somethings; everyone has secret dreams locked within themselves, and this book opens up the possibility to ask yourself, what if? We might wonder, who am I to dream of owning a café, writing a novel, learning how to paint, or traveling the world? It’s easy to get caught up in our 9-5 schedules, family responsibilities and the daily routine of our lives and lose sight of those hopes and wild ideas, but if you only get one precious life, the time to follow your dreams is certainly right now.

We think this little gem of inspiration begins a process of self-reflection and goal-setting that will “help you become you”, which is definitely a Ruchette do in our books!

Be sure to add 10: What’s On Your Top Ten List? to your book list and take a look at the rest of our wonderful collection of good reads.

As the comforting warm sun glows upon us and a gentle breeze whispers poems in our ears, having a wardrobe that is season-appropriate is of the utmost importance! For a bit of style inspiration, these lovely ladies shared with us what they're sporting for the summer season--a pop of pattern and a pinch of purple!

Kelly of Wears Kelly is absolutely smitten with summer style in our pastel purple dress. This soft shade of violet adds a subtle flair of color to any summer wardrobe and pairs beautifully with neutral heels.

Julie of Orchid Grey prettily plays with patterns in our geometric shapes dress which she pairs with a denim jacket and edgy buckled boots for a casual feel. Instead of a pop of color, why not try a pop of pattern in your summer wardrobe? The black and white scheme of this piece makes it a clean slate to accessorize easily!

As a staple for the season and a nod to the nautical, stripes are an absolute must for every summer wardrobe! Jessica of The Steele Maiden looks ready for a sea sailing adventure in our nautical-inspired striped dress. Although she ties in a neutral brown belt and coordinating bag to balance the patterned dress, Jessica adds a surprising pop of color with her bright cherry wedges!

This summer is all about eye catching pieces. Whether your playing with patterns or coordinating with colors, take note from these inspiring outfits and add a prettily playful twist to your summer wardrobe!

In our most recent bridal lookbook, Forever and a Day, we partnered with the talented Tricia Fountaine for the floral masterpieces. The flowers you see above, for example, are real! Tricia created an ombre wall that was truly breathtaking. In addition to the flower wall, take a look at her bouquets.

And of course, we can't forget the beautiful flower centerpieces.

Tricia Fountaine mesmerized us with her cohesiveness in creative design during our shoot. Her ability to bring the most brilliant of colors in the most beautifully defined way, is truly breathtaking. Located in Santa Barbara, Tricia is an event and floral designer with years of expertise under her belt. Planning an upcoming event or even a wedding? Don't be shy to contact Tricia Fountaine Design if what you're looking for is a masterpiece of design and a rainbow of color.

Perhaps her name has recently grazed your ear during casual conversation?  If you don’t know about her yet, you will and be prepared to be blown away!  Samantha Shannon is a college student with an imagination that has already projected her into Forbes Magazine as becoming the next J.K Rowling…. and she’s only 21! We recently partnered with Samantha and got to discuss the inspiration behind her new novel, The Bone Season, how she deals with success and the idea of future hurdles. This fresh faced author is a story of her own.

Samantha Shannon was born and raised in West London, where she started writing at the age of fifteen. She is currently studying for a degree in English Language and Literature at St Anne's College, Oxford. The Bone Season is her first novel (published by Bloomsbury, the publishers of Harry Potter). Not out until August 20th, her book is already being developed for film by Andy Serkis and the Imaginarium Studios. A profile of Samantha has just appeared in the New York Times and she is the subject of this Forbes article, entitled 'Is Samantha Shannon the next J.K. Rowling?'

    Image from New York Times

Samantha started writing The Bone Season when she was only nineteen years old, shortly after completing an internship at David Godwin Associates (DGA), a literary agency in Seven Dials, a small district in London. While she was there, she developed the storyline that would launch her literary career, "I had a vivid image of a girl having the same day at work as me, but she happened to be clairvoyant" – and The Bone Season was born.

Perhaps it all started at the age of fifteen when Samantha wrote her first science fiction novel called Aurora. It never became published and in fact as she explains, "It will collect dust in the attic until the end of time." Perhaps that was the kind of push this talented young mind needed.  Her success comes from very sound advice that she once gave herslf and now shares with fellow young and inspired girls hoping to make their dreams come true as well. "Be open to constructive criticism, don't be afraid to start again, and whatever you do, don't give up at the first hurdle." What great advice!

Pre-orders for the book will open with retailers this month. To celebrate, the book publisher is offering a chance to win a $300 gift card to Ruche -- all you have to do is enter your name and email! Just click here!

Thank you Samantha for such beautiful inspiration!
