Florist and fashion blogger Jordyn of Pretty Lovely Studios is a constant source of inspiration. From her darling outfits to her easy floral DIYs, we're smitten with this creative gal! Luckily, Jordyn was kind enough to share this easy DIY floral arrangement with us! We love all things floral, from cute dresses to blossom-adorned flats, and now that spring is officially here, we're looking forward to sprucing up our spaces with easy floral arrangements complete with our favorite spring blossoms. Read on for her guide to the perfect DIY floral arrangement. Spring Arrangement DIY 2

    From Jordyn:

When I am choosing ingredients for my arrangements, I like to choose a focal flower, foliage and textural elements. How many you have of each is up to you, but those are the 3 things I look for. For this arrangement i just stuck with one each. It makes for a simple and fresh design, perfect for Spring. I chose Ranunculus as my focal flower, viburnum as my foliage and a gorgeous buttery-yellow stock (pretty much obsessed with it now) as my texture. Choose a container you like, grab yourself some clippers and you are all set.

Always prep your flowers before arranging. That means remove any leaves and cut the bottoms so that they have a clean, fresh opening to drink up some water. Let them sit for an hour or two, even a day if you have time, before you start arranging. Spring Arrangement DIY

Here are the steps to create an easy spring floral arrangement!

    1. Wash the container and fill with water.

    2. Start with your foliage and create a nice, lush base around the edges of the container. Build up one side more than the other to create a more natural feel.

    3. Layer in your focal flowers. I like to place multiples together to create more of an impact, instead of separating them with the foliage. Doing that can sometimes create a polka dot effect that isn't always desirable when creating natural arrangements. Spring arrangement diy 4

    4. Take a couple of your textural elements and place wherever you see a hole or think that it needs a little something extra. Since my textural element is tall and fluffy, I didn't want to place to many in there, because I wanted the Ranunculus to really pop. But if you were using a berry of some sort, something that is small and compact, you could pop in a lot more of those. spring arrangement diy 3Spring Arrangement DIY 5

We have got quite a treat for you! Meet Aileeah Colgan. She's a singer, songwriter, producer, and all-around lovely gal. Aileeah is a musical storyteller - her passion for music and the women that inspire her make her a powerful force for good. In Aileeah's latest music video, she launched her #SheIsMyHero campaign, which is dedicated to celebrating the women who have inspired, empowered, and encouraged others. A true example of living beautifully, we were so lucky to have been a part of Aileeah's video (did you spy our Marvelous Night Dress?), and we got to know her a little better. Read on to learn more about this lovely songbird! Aileeah_01

We love your message behind #SheIsMyHero. What was your main inspiration when writing your single “Be Like You”?
Our studio worked on a documentary called Mary: The Wisconsin WAC — about a woman named Mary, who in 1943, enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII— at a time when the roles of women were changing in our country. She was a real trailblazer for proving what women are capable of outside the home. I started thinking about her and the countless other women in history that have paved the way for me. “Be Like You” is about honoring those ladies and inspiring the rest of us to appreciate the rights we have.

How did you discover your passion for music?
I don’t exactly remember where my passion for music began. I grew up in a musical family and it was just sort of ingrained from the beginning. I have a lot of memories singing in church, but I also grew up really loving musicals like The Sound of Music and Calamity Jane. I wanted to be just like Doris Day in her performance of “Windy City.” I also have always loved the work of Dolly Parton; her voice, and the fact that she actually wrote many of her hit songs.

You look so stunning in our Marvelous Night Dress in your video for "Be Like You." How does your personal style influence your music, or the other way around?
My personal style has a strong vintage vibe. One of my most favorite style icons is Laura Petry (Mary Tyler Moore) in her role on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” I think I have a special appreciation for fashion from many different eras, which is the same as my inspiration for music, I love all sorts of genres from all different decades. Right now, I’m especially into Patsy Cline’s classic country and singer-songwriter Lesley Gore.

What is your go-to outfit for a casual day at the studio?
While in the studio writing and recording my most recent song, “Be Like You” and the rest of my upcoming EP; comfort is key. My go-to is hippie-chic— a long flowy skirt paired with a loose fitting blouse and my hair in a top knot. For me, when I’m in the studio, it’s more important to focus on my music than worry too much about my appearance.Aileeah_03

What can we find you doing when you aren't busy creating or performing music?
Working out, backpacking, and rock climbing. I also run and do yoga, which help clear my head and give me energy to work creatively.

If you could collaborate on a record with any performing artist, who would it be and why?
I would absolutely love to work with The Avett Brothers! There’s so much honesty in their lyrics, and their melodies are so beautiful —  it’s perfection!

Where can you always find inspiration; whether it's for fashion, music, or a much-needed burst of creativity?
I can always find inspiration while taking a hike or just enjoying nature, sunshine is always refreshing for me. I also love spending time with my family, I find a lot of encouragement for my music from my dad. He’s always reminding me to be my own person; to consider other people’s feelings but not to take too much to heart — he’s a huge supporter of my music.

Our motto at Ruche is #LiveBeautifully. How do you live beautifully?
I believe that living beautifully is something that starts from within. Making sure that you are caring for the people around you while also taking care of yourself. And knowing clothes shouldn't define you, but they certainly can help reflect who you are.

Press "play" on the video below to hear "Be Like You" and watch the #SheIsMyHero campaign in action!

Keep up with Aileeah by following her on Instagram or stopping by her Facebook. We can't wait to see more from this stunning songstress!

Today's Dressesntials is all about the history of the shift dress! You can look at past Dressentials features here for a look at the history of a few of your favorite dress silhouettes like the drop waist dress and fit & flare dress. Our love for cute dresses is reaching new heights as we explore the facts and history behind our favorite dresses! Shift dresses are known for keeping it short & sweet; featuring a straight up-and-down shape, high neck, and an overall simple elegance. Shift dresses are perfect for the girl on the go, because the fabric slightly floats away from the body, leaving room for movement. The shift dress first rose to popularity in a sleeveless silhouette, but the dress that first became loved at the height of 1960s fashion soon was available in short sleeves, long sleeves, and in many prints, colors, and lengths!  Shift DRESS MAIN PAGE JPEG

In our last Dressentials post, we discussed the drop waist dress. The subject of today's post is the shift dress, which actually was inspired by the drop waist silhouette popularized by 1920s flappers! The creation of the shift dress is credited to designers Hubert de Givenchy and Cristobal Balenciaga. They introduced the classic silhouette, known for a shorter hemline and simple lines, in their 1957 Paris collections. The shift dress rose to popularity when worn by timeless actress Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn's black shift dress from the film was designed by Hubert de Givenchy himself, and has become an iconic image of timeless elegance.

Among the fans of the shift dress was fashion icon Lily Pulitzer. A fan of bright and bold colors along with vibrant prints, Lily took the shift dress and created a style that was completely her own. Did you know that Lily Pulitzer first started designing in bold prints because she needed something colorful enough to cover up the stains that appeared on her dress from operating a juice bar? Fellow style icon and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy wore both Pulitzer and Givenchy's designs often, and popularized the shift dress when she appeared on the cover of Life Magazine wearing Lily Pulitzer's design. The mini shift dress silhouette was created when designer Mary Quant cut the hem of her shift dress, and found a 16 year old model to show off her new design. That model would soon rise to fame and go by the name "Twiggy" (we think you may have heard of her!). The shift dress has remained a favorite for women everywhere ever since! Shift DRESS silhouette JPEG

The shift dress is still a favorite in and can be found in almost any Ruchette's wardrobe today! Perfect for adding a touch of vintage style to your everyday ensemble, or an easy, cute dress to slip into when you're on the go, we have a feeling the shift dress will not fall out of style any time soon!
