Preceded by her famously delicious pie pops, we introduce Andrea Smetona! This amazing woman is the owner/founder of Cakewalk Desserts and author of the new cookbook, Easy as Pie Pops. Andrea tops our list of dessert connoisseurs and we had the pleasure of featuring two of her decadent desserts in our 2013 Holiday Cookbook: Sugar and Spice. Whether you are craving savory or sweet, there's a recipe just for you. If you’re looking to be crowned dessert diva at your next holiday party, check out Andrea’s pie pop recipes - you’ll surely have all toques tipped after the first bite!

We caught up with the lovely lady behind the pops, so read on to learn more about this baker extraordinaire.

Tell us a little about your culinary background. Have you always loved to cook/bake? Did you go to school for it?
My background is actually in Hospitality Interior Design if you can believe it, and I have a Bachelors from Texas Tech University in this specialty. My love of baking began when I was young as a helper to my mother in the kitchen. It continues to be a way my mom and I bond every week, even though we live 2500 miles apart. We call each other constantly to talk about new recipes we love, ways to re-invent old classics and our hilarious baking disaster stories. So, while I never had professional training in baking, I did have a wonderful teacher. I like to think that my degree in design and my passion for baking married one another, creating what is now my business, Cakewalk Desserts.

We've heard that creating a book is a LONG process. How long did it take you to put Easy as Pie Pops together?
The short answer to your first question is...YES! To elaborate slightly, I will just say the entire process took about a year, but it was totally worth it. I learned a lot and I'm sure there are things I would do differently the next go-round, but it will always be so very precious to me. Many of the recipes are family favorites, and it almost serves as a tribute to the woman in my life and a legacy for Cakewalk Desserts. Easy As Pie Pops released everywhere November 12th, and it's my mission this coming year to help people know about the book. This is why I am so grateful to Ruche for helping me spread the Pie Pop Cheer this holiday season!

Doesn't her book cover look delicious! We can't wait to make a few of these recipes.

If you were to attend a holiday party, which recipe would you prepare from your book?
I love bringing anything a little different, just to spice things up. You know that feeling when you walk into a party and someone else is wearing your dress? Its the same for me and desserts. LOL. So, I think I might be safe with my Honeyed Fig or Cranberry Walnut Pie Pops. Both are beautifully festive and unforgettable.

(See the recipe in our cookbook!)

And of course, we have to ask, which Ruche dress would you wear to this party? Ok, this took me about 2 hours to decide on just ONE dress. This is always my dilemma when it comes to shopping at Ruche. However, I picked out the lovely Serendipitous Moment Embellished Dress. The color is a woodsy, deep hunter green with just the right touch of sparkle on the sleeve caps. It's perfect for the holiday party, but also great for just a night out with my hubby. I'm thinking I should buy it now before it's gone!

Now for a round of quick fire questions. Ready? Go!

Cuddled up indoors or bundled up outdoors?
Cuddled up indoors by the fireside, drinking Irish coffee, listening to Bing Crosby... watching the snowfall.
Holiday party attire: bold lipstick or bold jewelry?
I tend to forget to reapply my lipstick, so bold jewelry all the way! It lasts all night.
Apple pie or cherry pie?
Apple Pie!
Graham cracker crust or traditional pie crust?
I like traditional pie crusts because they are more versatile, you can go sweet or savory with the filling.

If you're itching to get your hands on one of her awesome recipes, you're in luck!
