Behind every style feature that we put out, there is a creative thought process and a team of talented make-up and hair artists, models, assistants, stylists and photographers working hard to make these beautiful looks and photographs possible. From mood boards to location scouting, our buyer and stylist Mara brought her creative vision to life in our newest back to school style feature, Take Note. What really happens at a photo shoot?! Watch our behind the scenes video to find out. And how does a stylist get inspiration? Read our interview with Mara below!
What was your favorite outfit from this feature?
My favorite outfit was from 4th Period! I loved the rust colored pencil skirt with the loose lace sweater. It looks effortless and comfortable with the gray tights, oxford heels and mustard bag. These are the colors I’m excited about for fall!
What was your step-by-step thought process as you styled for this shoot?
I tried to think about wearable items that real girls could wear for back to school or back to work. I loved the classic fall color palette (mustard, rust, navy) mixed with fuchsias and teals!
Where did you find inspiration for the back to school style?
I found inspiration in some of my favorite magazines and from different designers. Mai and I were really inspired by the Lauren Moffatt presentation for Fall 2013. The colors, vintage-inspired details and true fall-feel were what we wanted to incorporate in both the mood and styling.
Did you like shooting on location better than in studio (like our last back to school feature)?
Shooting on location is so much fun because there’s a lot you can do with your surroundings. I loved that we were able to shoot in real classrooms, the hallways, gym, and football field. It really added to the scholastic feel!
What new styles/trends can we expect to see from this season and the back to school feature?
You can expect to see stripes carrying into fall, interesting and unique prints, and classic details like peter pan collars and peplum waists.
Thanks for sharing with us Mara! It's so much fun to hear everything that inspires you. Also a big thank you to Brandon Kidd for his wonderful photography and vision, as always. We hope you enjoyed this peek into the behind the scenes of a Ruche fashion photo shoot
