KC Witcamp is our talented hair and makeup artist. She recently worked on our bridal lookbook and you can find her name in the majority of our lookbooks' credits. Read below to learn about her career and thoughts on the industry!
How did you get started in the beauty industry?
It just kind of happen. I've been an oil painter since I was very little and I've been playing with makeup for quite a while, but after going to college and graduating with an Art degree, I decided to follow my passion and became a makeup artist. It all began when I opened a book written by celebrity makeup artist, Kevin Aucoin, and it was like a light bulb moment. I instantly knew I wanted to become a professional makeup artist.
What is your favorite makeup trend?
This is harder than what I thought! I love the bright orange lips and the full brows, but to be honest, I don't really focus on "trends" because instead I get inspiration from so many things. The goal is to enhance someone's natural beauty.
In your opinion, should a bride "glam it up" for the big day or keep her look more natural?
A bride should do whatever makes her feel beautiful and confident. It all comes to personal taste. However, I believe that she should focus on enhancing her favorite features to create a timeless look. You want to create your own look that makes you glow and feel amazing without focusing on any trends that may make you look "out of style" in a few years when you look back at your pictures.
What is it like to work on a photo shoot? Do you get to travel?
Working on a photo shoot is a blend of adrenaline, madness, creativity, fun, stress, and craziness. It's so much fun! You really have to be on your A-game and bring everything to the table; there is no time for error. I love doing photo shoots, especially if they are on location because it adds more adventure to the equation. So yes, I do get to travel quite often! I love visiting new places and I'm extremely fortunate that my work takes me to different locations. I love it!
Are there any behind-the-scenes moments you'd like to share from our bridal lookbook?
Working with Ruche is so much fun and I always go home with incredible memories. The day of the shoot had a 50% chance of rain so Stephanie Williams (the photographer) was trying to get everyone ready and go through the scenes as fast as possible before the rain. I went on set (they were shooting the scenes in the car as a couple) to do touch ups and I saw that they were hugging (part of the scene) so I yelled, "Oh wow! You're fast. Just remember she is very young." That was me trying to be funny. Everyone started laughing (including me), but then I noticed Stephanie put down her film camera and said, "KC, I'm doing film!" Oops. I think I ruined the shoot. Thankfully she started laughing as well and then, of course, it started raining quite hard.
I LOVE BEING PART OF THE RUCHE FAMILY!
