As much as we adore movies, our favorite part of the Oscars is getting that first glimpse of the outfits our favorite celebrities choose to wear on the red carpet. From elegant black gowns to gorgeous white dresses, last night’s 86th Academy Awards was host to an assortment of contemporary elements, classic trends, and sophisticated silhouettes. For a little fashion inspiration, here are some of our favorite looks of the night!

Gorgeous as always, Emma Watson and Julia Roberts went with classic black for their red carpet looks. Emma’s bold red lip and contemporary stacked rings complemented the sleek silhouette of her Vera Wang dress, while Julia’s dazzling drop earrings paired perfectly with her elegant peplum and lace Givenchy gown.

It was lovely seeing a splash of vivid color on the red carpet! This year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress, Lupita Nyong’o, stunned us in her cascading powder blue gown from Prada. Last year’s winner for Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence, went with Dior once again, this time exchanging pale pink for saturated red with a peplum silhouette.

Decked out in rich navy blue, Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock went the strapless route this year. We loved that Amy accented her sophisticated Gucci dress with bright statement earrings and let the dramatic silhouette speak for itself. Sandra’s alluring Alexander McQueen gown stole our hearts with its flattering cascades and sweetheart neckline, attributes that were enhanced by Sandra’s glamorous Old-Hollywood waves.

One of our favorite trends of the night was embellished nude gowns! Cate Blanchett, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Sarah Paulson, Angelina Jolie pulled their vintage-inspired looks together with shimmering earrings and little else, as these glistening gowns required minimal accessorizing.

Proving that motherhood is still grounds for glamor, Olivia Wilde and Kerry Washington showed off their baby bumps in Valentino and Jason Wu. Olivia kept her maternity look svelte in a chic black gown, while Kerry’s dusty purple dress draped over figure for an ethereal effect.

We loved the white gowns Kelly Osbourne and Maria Menounos donned this year! Paired with glitzy clutches and elegant hairstyles, the gold-toned embellishments and vintage silhouettes of their dresses kept their looks red carpet instead of bridal.
