Reflections From A New Mother

Ashley of Southern (California) Belle has always been one of our favorite Ruchettes, and we've enjoyed watching her blog evolve and grow over the years! We featured her as our July 2013 Ruchette Of The Month, in addition to highlighting her creative taste in countless style files and sharing her real Ruche wedding with our readers. Now this beautiful blogger has entered her next phase of life, receiving a new role and title -- mom! We asked Ashley to share a bit about her transition to motherhood, and love what she had to say.

When I was pregnant with Bianca I only had one real fear. How was I going to take the transition from woman to mother? As someone who never really thought about having kids until I met my husband, I felt like I may have been a little emotionally unprepared. That, along with every parent I know telling me how hard parenting is, really freaked me out! The truth is, you can't expect anything until you meet your child. All those people who complained about how you won't have a life, how you'll never have time to do your hair or makeup, or those people who say you'll never sleep were wrong. Maybe I have an amazing child (doesn't every mother think so?) but I have been blessed to find a little time for me everyday. I've come to realize that I didn't lose my identity as a woman, I gained the privilege of becoming a mother. Nothing makes me happier than when I stare into my daughter's smiling face every morning. While my priorities have changed, I made sure I didn't. I truly live my life as an example to Bianca and I hope I make her proud in the future.
