We are so excited to have Kelsey of Honey and the Hive as our December Ruchette of the Month! This artistic lady paints delightful creations you can find in her Etsy shop and is the loving mother to an unbelievably adorable two-year-old boy. We love Kelsey's vintage-inspired style in both her artwork and her wardrobe, and we can't wait to see more from this talented gal. Learn more about her below, and see her previous feature on our blog here

How does your personal style influence your artwork?
I love all things bright and colorful and ...polkadotted!  Not only can I always be found wearing these elements, but they're all things that are very well represented in my art.

Where does the name "Honey and the Hive" come from?
When I was trying to think of a name for my shop, I wanted to come up with something that reflected myself and my lifestyle.  There's a lot of hard work and a little bit of craziness that goes into what I do, but the outcome is very sweet and gratifying - just like bees and honey!  Plus, I've always just had a thing for bees.

Where can we find you when you aren't creating stunning art?
Oh, you guys are the sweetest!  When I'm not painting I can be found in the kitchen baking up something sweet, cuddled up on the couch with a good book and a big ol' cup of tea, or going on some sort of crazy adventure with my tiny 2 year old - there's never a dull moment!

Our motto here at Ruche is #LiveBeautifully.  How do you live beautifully?
To me, the best way to live beautifully is to live happily.  I try to look for the little things that make me smile in life and to slow down and  admire all of the beauty and wonder in the world every day.

What would "Honey and the Hive" lovers be surprised to learn about you?
Well, not only am I an artist, but I'm also married to one.  Needless to say, we go through a LOT of paint in this house.

Do you have a favorite piece of work that you've created?
This is a great question!  As an artist, my number one goal is to make every painting that I do better than the one I did before it.  Every single piece I do teaches me something new about my technique, and makes me fall in love with painting even more.  It's such an awesome process and there is so much of myself that I put into every piece I make that I don't know that I could ever pick a favorite, they all have a special place in my heart.

You currently reside in Michigan where you get to experience each season to the fullest extent.  What's your favorite way to transition your style into the colder seasons?
It's so fun to live in a place where we really do have such drastic weather changes from season to season.  I've built a wardrobe full of so many great transitional pieces.  For example a dress that I'd wear out in the summer, I'll layer with tights, boots, and a flannel underneath for a great winter outfit.  I'm also a huge fan of chunky knitted sweaters and lots and lots of scarves!

What do you love most about being a Ruchette?
I love being a part of such a diverse community of women who are confidently being themselves and expressing that through personal style - it's such an inspiring thing!

Quick Fire!
Coffee or Tea? No, hardest question!  If I have to choose.......TEA!
Tulips or Roses? Roses!
Plaid or Polka dots? Polka dots!
Phone, keys, wallet, and.... Lipstick!

We're certain you're just as in love with Kelsey as we are! From her charming artwork to her darling style, we love how she seems to radiate positivity. Happy December, Ruchettes!
