Picnic season is here! One of our goals this spring and summer is to spend more time enjoying our natural surroundings, and what a better way to do that than by sharing a sunny meal with friends? Here are three picnic ideas to inspire you to make your way outdoors (with food in hand, of course!).
Picnic Breakfast: If your demanding schedule makes meeting for lunch seem near impossible, try joining your friends or a loved one for an early-morning picnic breakfast! To keep things simple, pack a thermos of coffee, some cute mugs, and fresh-baked bread with jam and butter. If you’re craving something sweet, bring along some homemade cashew butter and muffins, donuts, or coffee cake. For a savory twist, opt for hard-boiled eggs and cheese to pair with the bread. Don’t forget a fruit salad or yogurt to keep the meal balanced!
Picnic Lunch: There’s nothing wrong with classic picnic food; standard peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, potato salad, and watermelon slices certainly have their place. But why not try something new this season? We love the idea of packing a simple charcuterie spread of salami, cheese, and fruit to share, accompanied by crusty bread and some fresh lemonade. You can also opt for caprese sandwiches paired with a side of homemade veggie chips for a healthy alternative to traditional picnic food. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at a homemade galette and pack a green salad to pair with it.
Picnic Tea: Take a break from your hectic day to enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet outdoors. Steep a big pot of tea at home or work to bring along in a thermos, or opt for iced tea if the weather’s warm. Pack easy-to-eat snacks like biscuits, cookies, cheese and crackers, or get a little fancy with finger sandwiches and macarons. To restore your energy, bring along veggie sticks and hummus, or snack on salted edamame beans.
