Today is Mai's second Mother's Day, and she couldn't be more excited! Everyone says that children grow up so quickly, and that's because it's true -- it seems like only moments ago we were celebrating Mai's first Mother's Day and highlighting her maternity style on the blog! Read on for some of the motherly advice she's acquired in the past year and a half.

I can't believe Amelie is over 17 months already. Time flies and she's growing up so fast -- too fast! Her mind is like sponge, watching and listening to everything I do and say. She amazes me and surprises me each and every day. And she melts my heart every time she calls me "Mommy" and repeatedly kisses me with the "muah" sound. Gah! I die each time! It's by far my favorite thing.

When I think about my life with Amelie, I realize how motherhood has challenged me to be a better person, to be a good role model for Amelie. And when I think about my mom, I realize how she has been such an amazing role model for me, and I want to do the same for Amelie. I also think about how much I love Amelie and I just can't believe this is how much my mom loves me too. She's truly the greatest mom and grandma ever. (I love you, Mom!)

To all the grandmas, moms, and moms-to-be out there, you're all amazing! Happy Mother's Day!

    xo,
    Mai

Founder and editor of modern design blog Design Milk and pet design blog Dog Milk, Jaime Derringer is a hardworking, talented woman whose work has been featured in everything from the Los Angeles Times to Real Simple Magazine. Between balancing her two blogs, speaking on design, and consulting, this go-getter managers to find time to spend with her husband, daughter, and darling dog. Jaime's motherly advice comes from her father, who's played a nurturing role in her life. Read on for the wonderful lesson he passed on to her!

My Dad (!) gave me some motherly advice once that I will always remember and use in future teenage parenting: “If it doesn’t hurt them, let it go.” I’m pretty sure he was referring to my purple hair when I was 16! But, I think what he meant was that as a parent, you should put your energy into the important stuff, the stuff that will help them grow and shape them intellectually, emotionally and ethically rather than wasting time and energy on silly things like fashion trends or phases. In other words, “Don’t sweat the small stuff!” Great life advice, too! :)

A big thank-you to Jaime for sharing with us! Make sure to check out her blog, and head over to our special mother's day video for a heartwarming look at motherhood.

As a working mom, weekends have an entirely new meaning, and I look forward to spending every minute with Amelie. When it comes to our outfits, I always coordinate our prints and colors. We take a bunch of photos together so I want to make sure we match! She's already cute, but little mini outfits make the photos that much cuter.

Amelie is wearing our Rose Mary Indie Halter & Bloomer Set in her four month photoshoot and our Pony Playdate Onesie Dress for her 5 month shoot!

We are so in love with our littlest Ruchette and her already darling sense of style, which she surely gets from her mother (seeing as how she can't quite dress herself yet... one day, Amelie!). To see more of Amelie's cute little outfits and everyday adventures, be sure to follow her Instagram account @adventuresofamelie.

If you have pictures of your little one featuring Ruche items, be sure to hashtag #babyruchette! We'd love to see them. ♥

Our Mother's Day Album is a place where our Ruchettes can celebrate mothers and the women they appreciate. Every entry was accompanied by a piece of motherly advice, and one special woman, Jill, let us know she also scrapbooks moments of motherhood. Her scrapbook pages are truly beautiful and we're honored to be able to share her story and artwork here!

I am the mother of two beautiful 4-year-old twin girls. After years of struggling through infertility and a lot of heartache on Mother's Day, I was able to become "Mommy" through the most amazing gift of adoption when our daughters joined our family at just 4 days old. Every year, I create a scrapbook page of photos that we take on Mother's Day and journal a love letter to them about the past year. My blessings and struggles have given me a different perspective on motherhood, and I try not to take one day for granted. I know all too well what it feels like to have empty arms but thankfully, my heart is now full.

    -- Jill

We'd like to wish Jill a very merry Mother's Day tomorrow! If you would like to see more of Jill's scrapbooking, head over to her blog. And if you happen to have a story and/or artwork to share too, send an email to blog@shopruche.com. We'd love to feature you!

Our creative photographer, Jesse, is not only talented behind the camera, but she's extraordinarily crafty too! When she showed us the birthday party invitations she shot and drew for her nephew, we had to share!

First, I took a high-quality digital photo of my nephew. (This could be a point & shoot, DSLR, or iphone 5!) I chose a very simple, clean background and positioned him in the bottom portion of the frame, on his dad's sturdy hand. :) This positioning gave me room to drawn and write later. I was sure to say something silly to get him to laugh like that, too! Candid laughing shots are always the best! Then, I opened the image in Photoshop. I used the normal paintbrush tool and chose a thickness that was about the same as a marker. Next, I had fun trying out various options for hats and wording. The pom-pom hat with polka dots is my favorite! But, the possibilities are endless! To finish, my sister printed the invites on thick cardstock at Kinkos, and wrote the party details in hand on the backside. I love the simplicity and uniquness of this DIY - I may have to customize it for my own birthday this year!

    flower headband: Petite Plume

Amelie turned 1 month old on January 18th. She's getting closer to two months now, and I can't believe how fast time has flown by and how much she has grown. Within the first few weeks, she outgrew her newborn sized clothing and moved onto 0-3 months. In order to record how much big she gets, we will take photos of her every month with the same stuffed animal, her giant polar bear squishable.

Josh and I were always afraid of holding newborn babies, but once we held Amelie in our arms for the first time, it just came natural to us. The first few weeks were the hardest, but after getting used to her time schedule, it really wasn't so bad. It's definitely hard waking up multiple times in the middle of the night, but once I look at her cute little face, it is all so worth it! She sleeps longer through the night now, so we're able to get some more sleep too.

It is so amazing to see the little skills that she gains throughout the month; there's something new every week. The best one of all was seeing her first smile. Each time she smiles, it melts my heart! She's able to recognize objects and toys, but loses interest in them very quickly. She's more interested in looking at everything around her, like the ceiling fan, or the book shelf.

    pink headband: Petite Plume

Amelie has enriched our lives so much! People were right -- things have changed, but definitely for the better. Our weekends are spent at home playing and taking care of her, but there's nothing else we'd rather do. Josh and I are so excited to go on this new journey together as parents.

    xo,
    Mai
