If you're like us, you've been a fan of actress Tiffani Thiessen since the beginning of her career as teenager Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell. From appearances on the big screen and small screen, she is now a staple on the cooking channel where she hosts Dinner at Tiffani's and runs her very own blog. Tifffani has come a long way since her high school days, and currently lives in a cozy Hollywood suburb with her adorable family, which is about to expand because she is expecting a second child! You can take a peek into her intimate home life, which includes time with her darling daughter Harper, making lemonade with lemons from their backyard, and tending to their five chickens thanks to the latest feature in Zooey Magazine. We can't get enough of the gourmet flavors of Bon Puf, our favorite cotton candy cart. If you attended our birthday party a few weeks back, you may have spotted Cloe, standing at her adorable cart, swirling away and crafting clouds of tasty cotton candy for a long line of attendees. With flavors like salted caramel, pear, lemonade, and coconut topped with a sprinkle of Pop Rocks (yes, it was delicious!), it's needless to say that we have fallen for all things Bon Puf. Cloe was sweet enough to sit down with us and talk about her delightful cotton candy business!

What inspired you start your own business?
To be honest I never really had the intention of starting a business before the idea for a cotton candy catering company popped into my mind!

I had always loved cotton candy, ever since I was little it had been my favorite treat whether at the Santa Monica Pier or at a Dodger Game. When I graduated high school I took a year off to travel and work, it was during this time that I had the lightbulb moment where I realized cotton candy needed to be reinvented with all natural and relevant flavors. I really dove head first into researching natural ingredients  and what it would take to start my own cotton candy business after that moment. A year later I debuted Bon Puf at The Unique LA Summer Show. I think because I gave my self time to think about what I wanted to do instead of rushing into college I was able to take this idea and develop it into what Bon Puf is today.

How did you come up with the name Bon Puf? It's absolutely adorable!
During my year off after high school I went to the South of France to work. I picked up a bit of french and so when I returned and started putting my focus into my cotton candy ideas I knew I wanted to incorporate the French word for "good" into my business name. One day while experimenting with organic sugars my mom used the word "puf" to describe my cotton candy creations. We put the two words together and voila, Bon Puf!

What makes your cotton candy stand out among the standard county fair selection?
My cotton candy is all organic and all natural sans any artificial coloring or flavors. Second I am known for adorning my sweet pufs with fun and unexpected toppings such as chili, chai spices, pop rocks, sprinkles and more!

When you're not spinning amazingly delicious cotton candy, what can we find you doing?
When I am not spinning cotton candy I am plugging away at credits at my community college, going to the beach any chance I get, spending way to much money at thrift stores,  going on adventures with my boyfriend and spending time with my supportive family. I am very blessed to live in such a fun city where there is always a farmer's market, concert or flea market to go to so when I am not busy working it is hard to feel bored.

Which flavor is your personal favorite, and which seems to be the favorite among your fans?
I am a huge fan of anything having to do with coconuts so naturally I am very fond of my coconut pufs. That being said the Mango Chili puf is my most popular flavor, especially among Los Angeles locals.

What does a workweek look like for you? We're pretty sure it's not the typical 9 to 5 schedule!
Oh man, it's different all the time. Since most of my jobs are on the weekend I spend my work weeks catching up on emails, coming up with new flavor creations, and updating my Pinterest and Instagram accounts. I also try to make time to get out of my little office space and get inspired by fellow business owners.

Do you have any new toppings, flavors or ideas in the works?
I just introdced my Horchata flavor on Instagram! I am also really excited about introducing Lavender to my flavor line up soon! So stay tuned!!! Also Lychee dusted with matcha green tea is in the works.

What are your dreams for your company? Where do you see Bon Puf in 5 years?
That's a great question! I see Bon Puf branded gold Westfalias traveling all over the world bringing sweet treats to celebrations in every country. If you haven't noticed I am not afraid to dream big!

    Quick Fire:
Heels or flats? Swedish Hasbeens! Haha was that an option!?
Chick flicks or documentaries? Documentaries, Netflix has so many good ones. Maiden Trip, Muscle Shoals, Eames are some of my favorites.
Jeans or dresses? Jeans! I am a big fan of Madewell jeans!
Flowers or a box of chocolates? Flowers, especially wild flowers!
Your #1 beauty must have... Gnarly Whale's Beach Waves Spray. The cotton candy fragrance is to die for!

Dear Creatures has a knack for creating playful and colorful vintage designs that we would love to stock our wardrobes with! The husband and wife duo have a keen eye for retro style and have made great strides since their humble beginning just several years ago. Bianca and Rob were kind enough to sit down with us and give us some insight into the Dear Creatures world!

Growing up, did you both imagine yourselves becoming designers?
Rob: I wanted to create or teach fine art.
Bianca: I knew I wanted to do something in fashion, I was actually more inclined to doing styling, but I never thought that I would have my own clothing line.
Rob: We both kind of fell into designing by chance. Both of us, separately, met people in the course of our lives that asked us if designing is something we'd be interested in trying. We both tried it out, moved our way up in other companies, and here we are with our own clothing label!

Above photo was taken in 2008. Pictured is Bianca in her apartment with the first Dear Creatures collection.

How did this partnership come to be?
Bianca: We started Dear Creatures only 6 months into dating each other at the time. My previous employer suggested I start my own clothing line which I had never thought of doing before and honestly I was really nervous even thinking of starting my own company at that time when I was only 24. I brought the idea up with Rob back in 2007, who at that time had his own menswear clothing label going on, and I asked him what he thought about me starting my own womenswear line too. He was all for it and told me to go for it and he would help me as much as he could when he had time off on weekends from his menswear company. So for about the first year of business, and also the first year of dating, it was just me working out of my apartment and Rob helping me on weekends. Well things didn't work out with Rob's menswear company and at that point we decided that Rob would work with me full time doing Dear Creatures. With both of us working together full time, the business started to really take off and we were able to move into a bigger office space. I also moved in with him in his home in LA. Things just started going well with the business, more orders were coming in as we started expanding our distribution and sales team. As our business kept growing so did our relationship and we finally got married this past January!

After 7 years, Ron and Bianca married on January 9, 2014.

What do you love most about working together?
Rob: The best part about working with your significant other is getting to travel together and also just being able to put things out in the world that we created together. Looking back at past collections, there's always something about each collection where I can remember what stage in our relationship we were at or if something really significant happened. For example our Summer 2014 Collection was inspired about Hawaii because we were designing that collection the same month we eloped and got married in Hawaii.
Bianca: Or our Fall 2012 Collection where we were inspired by a kitten we found hiding behind a trash bin in our office parking lot. We adopted him and based our whole Fall 2012 photo shoot around this little kitten and we even had these cute cat hats made for the the model to wear while she held the kitten during the photo shoot.

Sneak peek of the Summer 2014 Collection. It will launch next week!

Tell us about the creative process! Where do you find inspiration?
Bianca: We are constantly clipping or saving images that inspire us and we refer back to these images for inspiration before we start designing. When we start designing, we always start at home by sketching out ideas without any distractions that come when we are in the office. We like being able to be surrounded by all our books and clippings at home and just turn off our computers and cell phones and really let our minds focus on conceptualizing ideas for the next collection. After all our sketching and ideas are in place, we can start working on the technical aspects of the designs back in the office.

Printing session for Spring 2014 WWD Magic.

    Any advice for aspiring designers?
Bianca: Take risks in life. If you have an idea of starting your own company, don't be afraid to do it. To risk nothing is to gain nothing. Just go for it and you will surprise yourself with how far you can go.
Rob: Remember that business is all about problem solving. Once you accept that, the stress levels will decrease significantly. There is a solution to every problem, you just have to be creative and think of ways to solve them.

We are sending a big thank you to Rob and Bianca! You can follow Dear Creatures on Facebook or Twitter, and make sure to view their clothing collection on our site

At Ruche, we love supporting indie brands, and B.A.I.T Footwear is one of our favorites! B.A.I.T., which stands for "But Another Innocent Tale," is a charming line of vintage-inspired shoes that perfectly complements our favorite dresses and blouses alike (we even spotted them on one of our favorite celebrities, Zooey Deschanel!). We had the chance to interview the incredibly sweet Julie Kim, designer of this imaginative brand. Read on to learn more about her company and the inspiration behind her gorgeous shoes.

Tell us a little about B.A.I.T. Footwear. How did it begin?
B.A.I.T. Footwear was created in the summer of 2011. I had been working as a footwear designer for various companies, but was honestly not feeling passionate about the shoes I was designing. My true love and passion was always vintage clothing and accessories. When it came to vintage shoes though, I found it truly hard to find the right ones in modern sizing (not to mention the condition). I also found that although there was so much beauty in vintage footwear, there wasn’t enough color to go with all my pretty vintage dresses and separates. I really started the brand to make shoes for myself and my friends. It was probably a very naive and innocent idea at the time, but I really created B.A.I.T. to design the shoes that I love in hopes that other gals would love them too!

Have you always wanted to be a shoe designer?
I can honestly say that I have always, always loved shoes! I was a sportswear designer first, but an opportunity came up to work in shoes. My mom does tell me stories about how I would pick out all my clothes as a child, and my shoes were always on the nightstand. When she’d try to put them on the floor, I would be a very unhappy little girl. I guess you follow your passion and it leads you to the right path.

Where do you find inspiration for your new designs?
Because our shoes are vintage-inspired, I do look to the past for many of my inspirations. I do a lot of browsing through vintage magazines and catalogs. I also shop quite a lot of vintage and that’s always an inspiration. Although our shoes are vintage-inspired, I think it’s important to keep it updated and modern. Our shoes are certainly for a gal that loves vintage and vintage inspiration, but it’s really for a gal that wants to feel pretty in a pair of sweet feminine shoes.

Which new design is your favorite? And what would you wear with them?
I must say that I have a little crush on our Ione in Wine! I would pair it with this very gorgeous Sugarhill Burrito Dress and these amazing earrings & bangles (I’d stack them up on both arms!). It’s a perfect outfit for a date night or spring soiree at a friend’s home and this versatile style goes with practically everything!
How do you want women to feel when they wear your shoes?
The word that comes to mind is “wonderful." I wish for every gal who wears our shoes to experience the most wonderful things. We’ve had lovely gals who have worn our shoes for their engagement parties, for their wedding day, and for baby showers!  It’s such an honor really, and in the end I hope our shoes make a woman feel lovely, happy and confident!

What are your future plans for B.A.I.T.?
Well, we are a company turning 3 years old this June (whoo-hoo)! We've very grateful for the support of small indie shops and amazing retailers like Ruche.  We hope to continue doing what we love, which is designing and offering pretty vintage-inspired shoes to all of our wonderful customers. We hope to expand our presence in more boutiques and shops across the United States and internationally. We are a small brand who believes in grass roots and word of mouth, so we hope that our customers will continue to love us and spread cheer about our shoes!

Now just for fun, tell us the first thing that comes to mind!
Phone, keys, wallet and… a lip gloss in the prettiest shade of pink!
You can never have enough… shoes!
Coffee or tea? Oh goodness, coffee!!!
A good book or a good movie? A great book for sure!
Polka dots, plaid or stripes? I’m a polka dot girl all the way!

We were honored to use one of Ciera Kensington’s songs in our spring lookbook, Flourish! To learn more about Ciera, we interviewed her on her music, style, and the inspiration behind “Sailing.” Read on to find out more about this talented singer/songwriter.

    1. What's a typical day like for you? Are you a full-time musician?
I'm kind of making the transition into full-time musician right now, so I don't even know what I would call a "typical day".

    2. In three words, describe your style of music.
Acoustic, pop-ish, love stories (That was four words, sorry!)

    3. Tell us a little bit about the song-writing process. Are you a laptop-at-a-desk writer or a napkin-in-a-cafe writer?
I don't have a set process, really. Sometimes I get a full chorus and other times I just get one line. I do have kind of a superstition about black Moleskin notebooks though. The first time I ran out of pages and had to start writing songs in a different notebook, none of the songs got finished. So now I only buy black Moleskin notebooks for songwriting. It's completely ridiculous, I know! Haha. But it makes me feel better, I guess.

    4. Who or what inspired you to compose the song “Sailing”? And what do you hope people will take away from it?
I wrote "Sailing" the day after my boyfriend (now fiancé) told me he loved me. That sounds SO cheesy, I know. Love is what I write about though, and when I sat down with my guitar that morning I knew I had something real to write about, which is where the whole second verse about finally believing in love came from. But at the same time, I know that love isn't all puppies and rainbows. You have to work at it, but it's worth it. So I guess that's what I hope people will take away from it. Love is real...so real. And you may have to work through rough times, but it's worth it.

    5. What's the latest news in your musical career?
Now that I'm doing music full-time, there are so many things that I'm excited about. I just started a blog to keep up with everything happening. I have a new song "Dance With You" that I'm working on recording right now. And I'm working on scheduling a StageIt show for my overseas fans. During my last StageIt show I had a fan from the UK staying up until 2am so they could watch my show. I couldn't believe it! So I promised I would schedule a show earlier for all my fans outside the US.

    6. Is there anything from Ruche you'd wear on stage?
YES! So many things! (I even got my Bridesmaid dresses from Ruche!) I think for bigger shows, I would definitely wear the Love Notes Lace Dress or Tranquil Rhythm Floral Dress. For more laid back things, like StageIt shows, I would wear the Yates Printed Shorts with tights, flats, and flowy top.

And now, just to get to know you a little more, here's a round of quick fire questions. Tell us the first thing that comes to your mind!
Phone, wallet, keys, and... EOS lip balm
Current favorite song or artist: "Girls Chase Boys" - Ingrid Michaelson
Sweet desserts or salty snacks? Sweets :)
Polka dots or plaid? Polka dots! I love polka dots!
Your fiance ... Makes my heart happy. :)

    -- Ciera

A big thank-you to Ciera for chatting with us! Be sure to check her out on Facebook, Twitter and her blog to hear more of her amazing music!
